Why now · The research
Small businesses make up most of the economy here, and the pace of change is speeding up.
of BC businesses have fewer than five employees: 333K owners working solo and 123K with 1 to 4 employees.
BC Stats, Small Business Profile 2025 (2024 data)Canadian businesses using AI doubled in one year, from 6.1% to 12.2%. Most have not started.
Statistics Canada, AI use by businesses, Q2 2025of businesses still see investing in AI as “not relevant” to their operations.
Statistics Canada, AI use by businesses, Q2 2025of small business owners were working extra hours themselves to cover staff shortages.
CFIB, The 8-day workweek (2023)What this means for a Westshore owner: competitors who adopt new tools early will pull ahead, while most owners have no spare hours to plan, test new technology or market the business. An outside team can close that gap without adding a full-time hire.
What we solve
Three challenges we hear from local business owners
Most owners spend every hour running the business. These are the problems that wait the longest for attention.
Years in business, but the playbook is getting old
Competitors move faster, margins get thinner, and there is never time to step back and rethink how the business should work.
- A clear 1–3 year strategy to renew and compete
- Operations review: where time and money leak
- Practical fixes your team can keep running
A question to considerWhen did you last take a fresh look at how you win and serve customers?
Too many systems, not enough results
An app for every task, tools that don’t talk to each other, and fees that keep growing. Your team re-enters the same data, and you still can’t see what’s working.
- A systems review: cost, use and overlap
- Consolidate tools and cancel what doesn’t pay off
- Automated workflows, with AI where it helps
A question to considerWhere does work get stuck, and which of your systems truly pay their way?
No time for marketing and sales
Growth depends on word of mouth and luck because the owner is busy serving customers. Enquiries go unanswered and campaigns never start.
- New growth ideas from an outside view
- A simple marketing plan and online presence
- A sales follow-up process: your growth engine
A question to considerIs your marketing earning its keep, or are you leaving growth on the table?
How we work
An outside team with new ideas, sized for your business
Large consulting firms cost more than most small businesses can justify. WIZAD pairs experienced consultants with Royal Roads talent, so you get senior guidance, fresh perspectives and hands-on help at a price that fits.
Senior guidance
Led by Leo Nguyen: 20+ years of technology consulting and digital transformation for banks and global technology firms, and founder of a mobile C2C marketplace.
Fresh perspectives
Students and alumni of Royal Roads University bring current thinking, research and hands-on capacity to each project.
Expertise you can afford
One clear project at a time, fixed scope and price, with tools and plans your team keeps after we finish.
From internship to operations partner for a growing real estate team
As a Royal Roads Master of Global Management student, Leo first proposed a three-year growth strategy and the initiatives to reach the founder’s goals. The next two sprints put them into practice and proved the results: first consolidating systems to streamline operations and cut costs, then defining the business ecosystem, designing the value chain and making the digital channels work harder.
Measured against the same work before the internship began.
He didn’t just look for an internship; he proactively identified our operational gaps and proposed a practical strategy to move us forward.
