Lessons from a growing real estate team in Victoria

How Pivot Homes Group moved from a growth strategy to working systems in three sprints, and what any small business can take from it.

Pivot Homes Group is a real estate team in Victoria. Its story shows how a small business can renew the way it works without stopping to rebuild everything at once.

It started with an internship. As a Royal Roads Master of Global Management student, Leo Nguyen studied the business and proposed a three-year growth strategy and the initiatives to reach the founder’s goals. The next two sprints put that strategy into practice.

Sprint 1Strategy: a three-year growth plan and initiatives
Sprint 2Systems: consolidate tools, streamline operations, cut costs
Sprint 3Ecosystem: value chain and digital channels
NextFrom internship to operations partner
Three sprints, each building on the one before.

Lesson 1: Start with the goal, not the tools

The first sprint produced no software. It produced a clear picture of where the founder wanted the business to be in three years and the initiatives that would get it there. Every later decision was tested against that goal.

Lesson 2: Fix the foundations before adding more

The second sprint consolidated the team’s systems. Fewer tools, connected properly, meant less re-entry of data, smoother operations and lower costs. Growth projects work better on a simple, reliable base.

Lesson 3: See the business as an ecosystem

The third sprint defined the business ecosystem: the partners, services and channels around the core business. Designing the value chain showed where the team created the most value for clients, and the digital channels were reworked to support it.

Lesson 4: Fresh eyes, guided by experience

Leo brought both sides: a student’s research and outside view, and more than 20 years of consulting experience that kept the work practical and focused on results. That pairing is the model WIZAD is built on: experienced consultants working alongside Royal Roads students and alumni.

Lesson 5: Work in short sprints

Each sprint had a clear scope and a result the owner could see. Short sprints keep a busy team engaged and make it easy to adjust the plan based on what the last sprint taught. For the tools behind this kind of work, see six ways a small real estate team can use AI and automation.

How WIZAD can help: the same approach works for restaurants, clinics and professional firms: one goal, one focused sprint at a time.
