The challenge

Your first role shouldn’t depend on who you know

Many students face the same three walls when they look for an internship or co-op in Canada.

You 01

No network, no referral

Many roles are filled through connections. If you are new to Canada or to the industry, it is hard to even get noticed.

02

Too few spots, too many applicants

Internship and co-op openings in your field are limited, and each one draws many strong applications.

No experience No job 03

No experience, no job

Employers ask for Canadian work experience, but you need a first job to get it. It is a loop that is hard to break.

How WIZAD helps

We create the projects and connect you to them

WIZAD scopes real projects with owner-led businesses in the Westshore and Greater Victoria, then matches each one with students whose strengths fit. You learn while you work, with a mentor beside you.

About the founder

A problem solver who puts ideas into practice

Leo Nguyen brings more than 20 years of experience in technology consulting and digital transformation. As a newcomer to Canada and a Royal Roads Master of Global Management student, he met the same barrier many students face: strong skills, but no local network.

Rather than wait for a job posting, he researched local businesses, identified where Pivot Homes Group, a Victoria real estate team, could grow, and presented a strategy to its owners. That initiative created a role the company had not had before. Drawing on strategic thinking and change management, he then led the change himself: setting the growth strategy, building the systems, automating the workflows and scaling up the team for sustainable growth.

Understand the problem, propose a practical solution, then see it through. That is the method behind every WIZAD project, and the standard Leo sets for the student teams he mentors.
