When an owner says “we need a new website” or “we need to use AI”, the first question we ask is not how. It is why, and by when. A website, a CRM or a new tool is a step. It only matters if it moves the business toward something specific.
That something is what we call the Zenith Goal: your aspiration for the business, the summit you want it to reach, written in one sentence.
What a good Zenith Goal looks like
It is specific, measurable and owned by you. Compare:
- Vague: “Grow the business.”
- Better: “Book 30% more jobs in the slow season without hiring another coordinator.”
- Vague: “Get organized.”
- Better: “Free 10 hours a week of my own time from admin by next spring.”
The better versions tell you what to measure and what success feels like. They also tell you what not to do.
Working back from Z to A
Once Z is clear, we work backwards. This is the Z ➔ A Strategy we use on every project:
- Z, Zenith Goal. Name your aspiration: the summit you want the business to reach.
- I, Insight. In the first week, find the one project that closes most of the gap.
- A, Actionable Sprint. Run that project in 4 to 8 weeks, with a fixed scope and price and a weekly check-in.
- D, Delivery. Hand over working tools, show the team how to use them, and agree on the next step.
Starting at Z keeps the work small and focused. Instead of fixing ten things a little, you fix the one thing that matters most, properly.

Try it this week
Take 20 minutes and write one sentence that starts with “Our aspiration is for this business to…”. Then ask: what is the single biggest thing stopping us today? That gap is your first project.
